Hello Everyone!

My name is Nia, and like many of you, I am very upset with this crisis that we are all facing. I am particularly upset by this statistic by Metlife and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce: One in four small businesses (24%) have shut down, and nearly half (43%) believe they have less than six months until they close their doors permanently.

Small businesses are the very pillars in our communities that allow us to be together. Think about that one coffee shop you love, or that one bakery where you always felt warm and welcome. Think about all the memories you’ve enjoyed at local businesses that are now feeling extreme financial stress. As a part of the Venture Accelerator entrepreneurship program at my school, I have created a business called The Real Tea.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, I have decided to pivot and create a curated beverage (tea/coffee) subscription box that partners with local beverage companies. During each month, I am going to interview new companies to hear “the Real Tea” on how Covid-19 is treating their businesses (these interviews will be posted on my website nhodges1.wixsite.com/therealtea). Samples from that company will be sent to my subscribers, and the profit from this model will go back to the beverage companies to help them manage their businesses during these difficult times.
